on the proceeding days to the 24th 25th and 26th there are a variety of activities held around town. See the schedule below issued by the Chiang Mai municipal office but worthy of note are the display of sculptured paper lantern around the moat are as well as at Thapae Gate and the Three Kings Monument in the old city, a visual spectacle well worth checking out! There are various kratong making and decorating contests usually held at local temples
On the Nights of the 25th and 26th the area to head for will be between Thapae Gate and Narawat Bridge on the Ping River linked by Thapae Road (the route of the procession) this is where most of the action will take place, although floating Kratongs will be released all along the river and fire lanterns released all over the city, this area gets busy! Be careful in the Narawat Bridge area as this is a popular firework launching sport many are hand launched and do not always travel in their intended direction!!
