We have had a couple of reports from our customers who have booked the Chiang Mai to Luang Namtha bus through our office. On arrival at the small bus station in Luang Namtha which is situated about 10km outside of town, they have not found any public transport options (usually a tuk-tuk or songtaew) to take them into town. The scheduled arrival time is 08:30 pm but I am aware that this bus is often late arrival and after 10 pm can be common and maybe the tuk-tuk drivers have…

Read MoreBus Timetables from Chiang Mai to Pai
IMPORTANT UPDATE! since writing this article the slow characterful red buses no longer ply this route. It is a shame as the slower pace of these buses gave you time to enjoy the scenery along the route (and were probably safer than the higher speed tourist minivans!) Most people will use Chiang Mai as their jumping-off point to the small town of Pai. Pai is a relatively short 130 km from Chiang Mai but most of the route passes through the mountains so journey times are usually over the 3-hour…

I guess how you feel about it depends entirely on your headspace at the time, and also about what method of transport you have chosen. When you arrive. For me this choice is the simplest of all. After…
